A cast brass angelfish with one long dorsal fin sweeping back in a high arc, rising off a base cast to look like a knuckle of coral. The body is worked in two finishes — smooth polished bands against a rough stippled ground — so the stripes read as texture rather than paint.
Small brass animals like this turned up on every seventies and eighties shelf, and the good ones had this much detail. The base has gone mottled and dark in the low spots, which is the patina doing its job.
Perfect on a stack of books, a windowsill, or wherever a small heavy thing is needed.
- Era: Late 20th century
- Material: Cast brass
- Condition: Good vintage — warm unpolished patina with darkening across the base, one small nick at the tip of the dorsal fin, structurally sound
- One-of-a-kind: Yes
