A tall studio vase that changes personality halfway up. The lower body is a smooth painterly wash — cobalt, ochre, sage and cream laid over each other in broad strokes with fine turquoise lines scratched through, like a canvas someone wrapped around a pot. Above the shoulder it goes textured and crusty, and the whole thing finishes in a collar folded and pinched into soft ruffles, with two small applied knobs where the two halves meet.
Signed and dated 1992 on the unglazed foot. This is one potter's own work, not a production piece — the surface is genuinely built up in layers, and no two sides read the same.
Big enough to stand alone on the floor or anchor a console. Beautiful empty, better with a few tall dried stems.
