A porcelain vase sleeved entirely in hand-woven rattan — tight honey-colored coils running the full gourd shape, with bands of oxblood, black and deep green worked into the weave at the neck, shoulder and foot. The white porcelain shows at the mouth, so you can see exactly how it was built.
Basket-clad ceramics like this came out of Japan and China by the crateful in the mid-century and almost none of them survived with the weave this intact. It wants dried grasses, or nothing at all.
